If you are working on being your best self, you have to make the conscious decision every day to work on yourself. It’s not something that will happen automatically. You have to put in the time and effort and be willing to work hard. Thoughts drive our actions, but most of this is below our level of consciousness. To be your best self, you must be conscious of your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. You can do this by using the following formula.

Situation + Thinking = Behavior

The formula above is a great way to figure out why you are doing what you are doing. It’s impossible to control every situation, but you can control how you think about the situation. You can’t control other people, but you can control yourself. Taking control of yourself and your thoughts will greatly influence how you react to certain things. Your behaviors are how you can become your best self.

Triggers, Truths, and Templates

Triggers, truths, and templates are three areas that contribute to your thinking. Triggers are things that set off an immediate reaction within us. Usually, these triggers are negative. This is why our brain is constantly searching for triggers so that it can keep us safe. This helps us avoid the fight or flight response that happens when we are triggered by something. Slowly changing how you react to triggers can help you become more in control of your behaviors. Truths, on the other hand, are the beliefs you hold about yourself and the world around you. Truths can be harmful to our behaviors when we have knee-jerk reactions to our beliefs. To take control of your truths, it will take some effort. It can help change your behaviors for the better, though. Lastly, templates are the positive and negative experiences that have happened to us. The memories that stem from these templates help you act in the same way if the event were to happen in the future. This can be a negative thing, though. They can hold us back. Being aware of our templates is essential so we can help change and control them, making them work for us.
