Laying the Groundwork for Lifelong Recovery

Treating addiction is not like treating other kinds of illness. There is no medicine that can heal all the symptoms, and no course of care that can guarantee that a person will be cured for good.

As anyone who has been through an addiction treatment program can attest, recovery is a lifelong process. While the phrase “recovery is a journey” may seem cliché, it rings true for those who have experienced the many ups and downs of achieving and maintaining sobriety.

If you or a loved one is struggling, reach out to The Arbor today at 844.413.2690 to learn more about our dual diagnosis rehab program.

Sober Living Designed with You in Mind

At The Arbor Behavioral Healthcare, we don’t let these challenges prevent us from pursuing a healthy, sober lifestyle. In fact, our outlook is precisely the opposite: we know that recovery won’t always be easy, but we also know that our continuum of care provides the added support that our clients and their families need when they are most vulnerable.

Our extended care treatment program is one of the levels of care we offer to safely guide our clients as they navigate their life in recovery.

The Arbor’s Sober Living includes gender-specific housing in Austin, accompanied by recovery advocacy and treatment on an intensive outpatient schedule.

These IOP sessions, held at our nearby outpatient facility, will include both men and women to reintroduce co-ed trust and bonds. The Arbor’s sober livings consist of separate men’s and women’s houses located in Hyde Park and two separate houses located in North Austin.

The Arbor’s Sober Livings are designed to provide clients with a bridge between residential treatment and traditional sober living, providing higher levels of accountability. This transition can be jarring as individuals in recovery adjust to levels of independence.

Why Sober Living?

In early recovery, having a secure base such as sober living, is essential, as you will be presented with many challenges. The Arbor’s aim is to provide you with the structure and accountability to successfully navigate early sobriety and establish a firm foundation in recovery.

Creating structure and boundaries are an imperative part of recovery, especially in the beginning; therefore, we strive to provide structure and responsibility in sober living. When you learn to take responsibility and care for yourself and your environment, you set yourself up for success. In sober living, we guide you in establishing a structured regimen, setting standards and expectations for yourself, and becoming a healthy part of a supportive community.

The Arbor’s sober living homes are fully furnished with comfortable amenities. Residents are encouraged to attend The Arbor’s 12-step alumni meetings on Wednesday nights, along with other alumni events throughout the week.

We have found that many people are more likely to be successful in sober living when they have at least 90 days of residential treatment under their belts. While we understand people’s urgency to move on with their lives after completing treatment at a residential rehab, prioritizing recovery often involves making decisions based on the safest option for maintaining recovery instead of making decisions based on the natural impulse to be free of restrictions and leave the past in the past.

Transitional Luxury Housing: Sober Living

Arbor sober living residents ease into a healthy, independent lifestyle while experiencing real-life responsibilities, social norms, and gaining valuable work and living skills.

Life in sober living keeps distractions to a minimum, empowering residents to stay focused on their paths toward independent living. Participants reinforce the skills and habits learned in treatment surrounded by others who are also new in recovery. A sense of community is formed, creating a personal network of peer support.

Each sober living home has a live-in house manager who provides oversight, support, and accountability. All sober living residents will engage with recovery advocacy and intensive outpatient (IOP) addiction treatment provided by The Arbor.

Advocates meet individually with clients to set goals, assess progress, and develop life skills. Residents will develop a personalized care plan with their recovery advocate to aid in the process of recovery. Our IOP provides a continuation of clinical support and guidance. Transportation services are available for clients attending IOP at The Arbor.

The Arbor Behavioral Health: Best Sober Living in Texas

Sober living clients participate in a weekly house meeting to check in with each other and their house manager. On-demand and random toxicology screenings are conducted to ensure the safety of all residents. While we understand that some people may find drug testing unnecessary or insulting, we rely on quantitative rather than qualitative evidence of sobriety. At The Arbor Behavioral Healthcare, we understand that addiction often coexists with mental health challenges. This combination, known as dual diagnosis, requires specialized care to address both conditions simultaneously. Many individuals turn to substances—such as stimulants and sedatives—to self-medicate symptoms of underlying mental health disorders. However, true healing comes from proper diagnosis, personalized treatment, and the right combination of therapies and medications.

Putting Recovery First

Each of our sober housing programs includes clinical support from dedicated professionals. House managers meet regularly with Arbor staff, including the Director of Recovery Services, to discuss each person’s progress and plan for success. When a client is struggling or needs help, clinical intervention is available. Residents have the support of our treatment team as they move forward. Our executive and clinical leadership oversee each sober living home. This is a feature that distinguishes our program from other Austin sober living homes. Continuity of care is supported throughout recovery. To enquire about sober living bed availability, call our intake team at 844.413.2690 or complete an application for admission.
