As the responsible party for providing health services, it can be daunting when doctors need treatment for drug abuse or addictions. However, as exemplified on the TV show House, doctors are not immune from developing addictions. While House is a fictional show, it would be silly to assume that doctors never become dependent on the drugs that they prescribe. Any circumstance in life, especially injury, can be a gateway to drug use and subsequent addictions. After the addiction is admitted, the doctor will then need treatment.

Doctors can be fearful about seeking treatment if they feel that their medical careers would be on the line. However, if a doctor treats a patient and makes a mistake while under the influence of drugs, medical malpractice suits may be filed. A doctor takes an oath to provide the best medical care that he or she can and by abusing drugs, that doctor is disregarding the very oath they took.
