When you suffer from attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) while in rehab, you are working to address two issues at once. Because certain medicines react with your disorder, you have to be careful if your therapist prescribes medicine to help counteract the drug addiction. Certain drugs open passages in the brain that allow suppressed feelings to come out. This is the case with antidepressants that may cause suicidal thoughts in those with ADHD.
However, your drug addiction could be a result of your ADHD and that is an issue that needs to be addressed during counseling as well. It is not uncommon for sufferers of ADHD to attempt to self medicate, many do it. However, the self-medication can lead to a severe addiction which is why you need to address both the addiction and underlying ADHD in rehab. Speak to your counselor to ensure that you get the best care.
