If you suffer from attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) while in rehab, you are working to address both your drug addiction and the ADHD in rehab.

Medications problems for those with ADHD in rehab

The medications you use have to be carefully prescribed as certain medicines react with your disorder. You have to be careful if your therapist prescribes medicine to help counteract the drug addiction. Some drugs open passages in the brain that allow suppressed feelings to come out.  One example of this is with antidepressants. Antidepressant medications may cause suicidal thoughts in those with ADHD.

It’s also possible that your drug addiction could be a result of your ADHD. This is an issue that needs to be addressed during counseling as well. It is not uncommon for sufferers of ADHD to attempt to self medicate, many do it. However, the self-medication can lead to a severe addiction which is why you need to address both the addiction and underlying ADHD in rehab.

Speak to your counselor to ensure that you get the best care.
