“...I never have to live “like that” again.”

At The Arbor, I was taught to open myself to new experiences and ways of thinking and to set aside what I thought I knew about myself, others, my disease, and the program of recovery. I was given the chance to understand and finally believe fully that I never have to live “like that” again. Leaving The Arbor was scary, but with a sober living placement, the Arbor aftercare group, and the host of friends I’ve made through The Arbor (who’ve actually begun an Arbor Alumni group), I found the support I needed to begin this wonderful life of sobriety.

Intensive Outpatient Program FAQs

If you’re considering IOP treatment or are helping a loved one navigate the process, you probably have many questions. We’re here to answer them and assist you every step of the way.

Sessions meet in Austin Monday through Thursday evenings, providing plenty of structure while remaining flexible enough for daily life.

Most patients in our IOP do work, go to school, and/or keep up with their responsibilities at home. The program is flexible enough to fit into a busy schedule.

No. The IOP does not include or require accommodations at a treatment center. Patients are able to live at home if it’s supportive to their recovery, or in a sober living house, which are plentiful in Austin.

Many benefits apply to IOP services, and The Arbor accepts many insurance plans to help cover the cost of treatment. You can verify your benefits for free online or get in touch with our staff for assistance.

  • Recently completed a residential program and need continued support
  • Are stable in your recovery but need structure to stay on track
  • Have a strong home environment or are in sober living
  • Need more than weekly (or less often) outpatient therapy
  • Are able to commit to our eight-week program
  • Could benefit from 12-step support, spiritual development, and family services

Yes. The Arbor offers men’s and women’s sober living homes in Austin, with residences located in Hyde Park and North Austin. These homes provide structure, accountability, and community while clients participate in IOP. Transportation to treatment is included for sober living residents.

If you’re in recovery, the risk of relapse is never zero. Completing addiction treatment gives you a strong foundation for recovery and teaches you skills to prevent relapse. Continuing treatment through an IOP allows you to continue building your skills.
